HIGHLAND SPRINGS NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING RECAP & NEXT STEPS

Thank you to everyone who attended our recent neighborhood meeting! We had a great turnout, productive discussions, and many thoughtful ideas about how to address the proposed multifamily housing development along Hollywood Rd.

After hearing from everyone, here’s a summary of what was discussed and decided:

FORMATION OF A TEMPORARY HIGHLAND SPRINGS BOARD

During the meeting, residents voted in favor of forming a temporary board to help organize our efforts and ensure transparent communication across the neighborhood.

This board will include a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Member at Large, and one Alternate, and will remain temporary until we can hold a formal neighborhood-wide election that allows every resident to vote.

Your current Highland Springs Temporary Board members are:

  • Heath Carpenter - Chairperson

  • Makayla Tipton - Vice Chairperson

  • Cori Bohannon - Secretary

  • Megan Dia - Treasurer

  • Robert Adams - Member at Large

  • Reagan Maldonado - Alternate

Please note: This board is not intended for the purpose of enforcing or managing deed restrictions within the community. Its purpose is to address the current issues related to future development, infrastructure maintenance, and—once these matters are resolved—planning fun neighborhood activities to keep Highland Springs connected and thriving.

COMMUNICATION AND NEIGHBORHOOD INVOLVEMENT

Because many of our neighbors don’t use social media, we’re establishing temporary Block Representatives for each street. Their only role is to help keep everyone informed and make sure those not on social media are still connected and up-to-date.

If you’d like to serve as a Block Representative, please reach out to info@highlandspringscommittee.com or contact any of the board members listed above.

We’ll also be posting a Microsoft Form soon to collect email addresses for neighborhood updates — and we promise not to spam anyone! Please share this with neighbors who aren’t online so they can stay informed.

AGREED-UPON ACTION PLAN

As a community, we agreed to move forward with the following steps:

  1. Personal Delivery of a Letter to the Builder:
A neighborhood representative will personally deliver a letter outlining our concerns and requesting a meeting with the builder. Our goal is to have the builder explain their plans and allow us to propose alternative revenue-generating uses for those lots other than multifamily housing.

If anyone can help create financial models or visual presentations of these alternative uses, your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Certified Letter to the Builder:
A formal, certified letter will also be sent to ensure our communication is officially documented.

  2. Follow-Up and Next Steps:
Our hope is that the builder will be open to a respectful, productive conversation — much like the one we had as a community today. If not, we’ll move forward with our Neighborhood Campaign Plan to continue advocating for Highland Springs’ best interests.

ROADS, DRAINAGE & FUTURE GOVERNANCE

We also discussed the importance of pursuing governance and accountability for our roads and drainage systems in the future. However, this topic has been tabled for the moment, as time is of the essence in addressing and preventing the construction of the proposed multiplexes. Once this immediate concern is resolved, we’ll revisit this important discussion.

COMMUNITY MOMENTUM

We gathered 60 signatures at the meeting — a fantastic start!
If you’d like to help gather more signatures, volunteer for communication efforts, or assist in any way, please reach out to any board member. Every helping hand strengthens our position and shows how united we are as a community.

Together, we’re proving that Highland Springs is a community that cares — proactive, organized, and working hand-in-hand to protect our neighborhood’s future.
